Flooding five years ago and Thames at War

Flooding five years ago
Spike sent me this picture of Abingdon – five years ago, showing the River Thames having burst its banks. Thankyou to him.

There is a bigger version (here …)

Last time the River Thames broke its banks was in April 2018. The Thames at War event at the Lock was postponed as a consequence. I read in the Oxford Mail that the event will be held instead on April 14th, 2019.

In the Abbey Meadows, this afternoon

Abbey Meadows
In the Abbey Meadows, in Abingdon, members of the Carbon Cutters were tidying up and pruning the garden beside the children’s play area. There will be some new colourful planting next year.

Nearby work is still underway on refurbishing the toilets. They will include five self-contained unisex toilets, men’s urinals, and  a wheelchair accessible toilet with a height adjustable adult-sized changing bench and hoist. There will also be baby changing facilities.

Morning Rush Hour on Bridge Street

Morning Rush Hour
On the bridge over the River Thames in Abingdon, during morning rush hour, there was a green bus with a message of peace and goodwill from Muhammad,

A little way behind was a Baskervilles van (fruit and veg from Radley Road, Abingdon), and an Autoglass van.
