Thanks to Alison for a picture of Justin arriving in Abingdon, with his daughters, where there was a waiting crowd soon after 9am this morning.

Thanks to Geoff, Justin’s work colleague, for a picture of Justin accompanied for the last 9 miles from Abingdon to Oxford by James Phillpott of the Amber Phillpott Trust.

There were lots of others runners, from all parts of the UK, passed by the feeding station at Abingdon, where Justin’s supporters gave them all a cheer.

One of them said “It easy really!!! I’m just making it look difficult” as he hobbled on his way.

Saturday of May Bank Holiday Weekend

Saturday
The Mayday Bank Holiday weekend began with  a slight frost. Mist floated over the water of the River Thames, below Abingdon Bridge.
Saturday
On the Market Place the 10th Abingdon (St Helen’s) Scout Group had a table top sale.

Last weekend the district scouts held a St George’s Day parade at the European School in Culham. Gone are the days when there is a parade in Abingdon every year since the merger of Abingdon District and Didcot District in April 2012.
Saturday
There were two buskers on the Bury Street Shopping Centre, one playing the lute, and the other the flute.

As the day progressed people looked up to the skies at the roar of aircraft arriving, or practising for the 2014 Abingdon Air and Country Show. It is at Dalton Barracks, tomorrow (May 4th).

Artweeks in Abingdon and Beyond

Artweeks will be on from 3rd – 11th May in South Oxfordshire. One exciting and unique event has been postponed until later in the month. In The Barn at Stonehill House there will be an exhibition called From Icons to I-Cats, showing images of contemporary Russion icons alongside Svetlana Petrova’s I-cats.

(If people would like to go to the opening talk they can email Anthea.)

Elsewhere in Abingdon there is art on display throughout this week. I’ll add pictures once I’ve visited any. Full details can be found at Artweeks:

May Theme – Squares

The theme for the May 1st City Daily Photo is Squares. Last month was triangles.
Square of Demolition
A few weeks ago the demolition of the Mayott House – old people’s home – began. Different components were sorted and I got a picture of roof tiles stacked in square sided containers.
Square of Demolition
Beyond the square end of the hoardings, some rubble still remains from the concrete foundations, but the square plot of land is mostly cleared.

New independent living quarters for elderly people will emerge on the site. The building contractor has just been selected from among the tenderers.
