Happy Easter. Last time the church met it was Merry Christmas.

It was Easter Sunday and Trinity Church building was open for a service for the first time since Christmas Day morning.

The volunteer gardeners have kept the garden in good trim.

Flowers on the window sills round the church were lit up by the sun. We had the usual Easter Day hymns, most were videos shown on the screen, but Kate sang one live with Revd. Ian playing the piano. He also preached. The reading was Jesus greeting Mary Magdalene in the garden. She thought it was the gardener until he said ‘Mary’!

Five Willows in Abingdon – with new leaves

My favourite Willow tree is the one in the Margaret Brown Gardens. You can stand under that tree and look through the long trailing branches down the long stretch of the River Thames towards Culham. Sometimes the branches hang like a string curtain, but in this picture the wind is throwing the slender branches back and forth and round.

On the other side of the Iron Bridge, there are a row of willows that shade the River Ock in Summer.

About half way along the Ock Valley Walk is a tree with a bare trunk covered in dark ivy. It has a top knot of leaves, and a curtain of thin branches.

Next to Abingdon Baptist Church is a well shaped weeping willow with its own gated area.

On the island in the Abbey Gardens are two or more willows that have grown together into a mound.

P.S And here is the Willow that once stood in front of the Old Gaol with thanks to Brian.

New coffee outlet at Albert Park

A new coffee outlet has opened next to the Albert Park in Abingdon.

A spokesperson said: “The Conduit House outlet, which has created three new jobs, will allow for coffee enthusiasts to easily pick-up their favourite handcrafted coffee, such as the as the iconic Flat White featuring our signature Mocha-Italia blend, and then enjoy it in the park. “

The spokesman also said “The outlet will be a great benefit to the area. Parents waiting to pick up their children from Carswell School can now enjoy a coffee. Nearby churches are currently unable to serve coffee due to government Covid-19 restrictions, and so people will be able to pick up a coffee at the Conduit House outlet instead.”

However, not everybody is happy. One gentleman commented, “How on earth did they get permission to open this in a conservation area?”

The Conduit House coffee outlet will be operating a takeaway only service at first. Plans for a drive through outlet are being considered.
