Expect Delays

Severe Delays - Find Alternative Route
Resurfacing work is to take place on the Marcham Road this coming Saturday. The notice warns Severe Delays Expected – Find Alternative Route.

But it does not say from what time to what and having searched on google I am none the wiser so cannot advise whether you should risk going to Tesco or not.
road works on Marcham Road
This is the culmination of the work to cut a corner off the McDonalds Roundabout and ease the way into Colwell Drive.

The scheme got a bit controversial because a District Council Tree Officer slapped a tree protection notice on a Horse Chestnut tree and delayed the works.

Good to see that those Horse Chestnuts are still putting on a good show and the work is nearly complete.

Back of the Yellow Bus

back of yellow bus
In early June we will be seeing the back of the yellow Abingdon Town Bus for the last time, after four years in service.

A replacement timetable will also be needed.  Heyfordian Travel will replace Whites Coaches and on Saturday afternoon their service will run longer and be the same as Monday to Friday. Those final M-Fs on the timetable will also need removing

The big complaint has always been that the town bus only ran to 14.00 on Saturday.

2010 Dragon Boat Racing

As in previous years, rain or shine, the 2010 Dragon Boat Racing was a great event. It had all the ingredients …
practising on dry land
The dry run as teams tried out their oars before boarding …
Vikings waiting to board Dragon Boats
The fancy dress teams waiting to board…
Banging the Drum
The team leader banging the drum…
People watching
The crowds watching and cheering the teams, with stalls and a funfair behind…
Pirates boat drives on
The teams powering down the course as hawaii-five-o played…
Abingdon School Team Hug
The Team Spirit…

And of course raising money for good causes… Each team raised money for charity through sponsorship. The target was £2000 per team, with one third of the money going to the Rotary Club of Abingdon Vesper’s charity fund and two thirds to the team’s nominated charity.
