Oxfordshire County Council are proposing to raise the cost of the Town Centre Residents’ car parking permit from £100 a year to £120 a year. Objections, specifying the grounds for objection, need to be received by 6th March 2015. (found under public notices on page 36 of this week’s Herald ….)
Another Snowy Start. Schools were Open

The Oxfordshire County Council’s web site did not show any schools closed because of snow today. Pictured is Carswell School.

Larkmead’s school web site said:
Snow – Larkmead School is open as usual.
It also said “OFSTED Inspection – We have been informed that Larkmead School is to receive an OFSTED inspection on Tuesday 3rd February and Wednesday 4th February.”

Outside the Unicorn School a banner says ‘Ofsted 2012: OUTSTANDING in all areas‘. That’s the way to do it!

Abingdon must have more salt bins per head of population than your average town, but there were still some slippery places on roads and pavements.

I saw one boy come off his bike near this spot. He limped a few paces before getting back on the bike and setting off again.
Abingdon Lock Maintenance Work – Phase 2

Abingdon Lock is having maintenance work done this winter.
Two years ago the lock was emptied of water and the lock chamber was relined.
This winter the lock gates are being taken away and strengthened. The upper gates have already been done.

The lower gates have been taken away and will return before the end of the month.

As there are no boats and no floods this winter the Lock Keeper has been clearing the wild area behind the lock. He has been pollarding trees and making fences from the wood, and intends to create wild flower banks on that side.
It will be very interesting to see how it looks in the months to come.
What would you miss most about leaving Abingdon Forever?

It goes without saying that I would miss the people. I would also miss living so close to the River Ock and River Thames – two very different rivers.
The swans were pictures on Christmas Day 2014 near St Helen’s Wharf.
I’m participating in the City Daily Photo Theme Day for Feb 1st.
