The Oxfordshire County Council’s web site did not show any schools closed because of snow today. Pictured is Carswell School.
Larkmead’s school web site said:
Snow – Larkmead School is open as usual.
It also said “OFSTED Inspection – We have been informed that Larkmead School is to receive an OFSTED inspection on Tuesday 3rd February and Wednesday 4th February.”
Outside the Unicorn School a banner says ‘Ofsted 2012: OUTSTANDING in all areas‘. That’s the way to do it!
Abingdon must have more salt bins per head of population than your average town, but there were still some slippery places on roads and pavements.
I saw one boy come off his bike near this spot. He limped a few paces before getting back on the bike and setting off again.
Why would the school close?
normally because the teachers are unable to get to work, so there’s nobody there to teach them or run the school
There are rules on adult to child numbers. Without enough adults at least part of a school has to close, and that’s difficult to predict.
Also there are now many regulations re icy conditions etc, many very silly, but there they are.
Don’t blame the schools, blame health and safety!
Salt bins – “FANTASTIC”
There’s one by a sloping path close to our house, and it is now so easy just to scoop up some grit/salt and scatter it on the path.
Well done, whoever thought of putting them around the place. Very much appreciated.
