No Return Bus from Bus Consultation

Reductions in central government funding to Oxfordshire County Council mean that they need to cut services, and they are aiming to save a further £6.3m from bus subsidies.
Latest Bus Consultation
They have already reduced the Abingdon Town Bus Service (pictured above) so that the last bus finishes at 15:30.

They are now asking people what else can be cut. The options in the current consultation are:

  • Withdrawing bus subsidies altogether
  • Reducing funding to subsidised bus services – and adopting the principle of prioritising , where possible, services most likely to be used by the elderly and disabled
  • Dial-a-Ride – Ending direct funding of the Dial-a-Ride service – encouraging community transport groups across the county to deliver a replacement service.

You can have your say on Wednesday 8th July at Abingdon Guildhall from 16:00-17:30.

More information at the Oxfordshire County Council’ Website.

It was pointed out to me that users of the Abingdon Town Bus Service have no return bus after 15:30.

John Mason School Alumni Network

John Mason School Alumni Network
Since John Mason opened in 1961, many thousands of students have come and gone, and all of them have gained years of valuable life experience through a multitude of careers. The school is hoping that some of the ex-students might be willing to use their experience to help current students. This might be through online mentoring, visiting to speak to students, offering work experience placements, or many other possible contributions.
John Mason School Alumni Network
They would love ex-students to sign up to their new John Mason School Alumni Network. It could to receive the occasional newsletter, or a reunion event. However, you can also say whether or not you’d be willing to help further.
John Mason School Alumni Network
Ex-students can sign up online via a website: formerstudents.johnmasonschool.org or by the “Sign up” link on the new John Mason School Alumni Network Facebook page.

This project is being carried out in collaboration with Future First, a charitable organisation which helps school set up alumni groups and engage former students. Their video shows how a similar project works at another school: https://youtu.be/1vWhzT4T9ys

7th Yeah Baby
On Abingdon Market Place today the 7th Yeah Baby Free Music Festival was raising lots of money for local children’s charities: Amber Phillpott Trust, Helen & Douglas House, RMHC & Oxford Children’s Hospital.
7th Yeah Baby
There was a large stage put together by a team of scaffolders.
7th Yeah Baby
As well as lots of bands, there were also stalls for face paints, cakes, beer, and other refreshments, and the sun shone.
Alices Day
Mostly Books had the start of their Alice in Wonderland Summer, it being 150 years since ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’ was first published.
Alices Day
Anybody who caught a bus to Oxford would have found that July 4th is Alice’s Day there today.
