Last Sunday Ashnah Tribal Bellydancers were performing at the Exbourne Road Street Party.
This week they were part of the parade at the mile long Cowley Road Street Party / Carnival in Oxford.
We met quite a number of Abingdon people in the crowd.
I have put a longer report on Not The Abingdon Blog.
This may be of interest:
8:00 pm today (Monday 6th July), Channel 4, ‘How Councils Blow Your Millions’
‘Reporter Antony Barnett travels from the southern tip of England to Edinburgh to uncover financial deals between cash-strapped councils and banks that are now costing taxpayers millions of pounds a year. He tracks down the banks that made enormous profits from offering complex loans to local authorities and speaks to insiders who reveal how these deals have left some councils with mammoth interest bills to pay at a time of huge pressure on public services.’
What does previous comment have to do with street parties that are vibrant, fun and bring communities together?
I don’t think it was directly related, per-se. I think that more, with this being an often well viewed blog, it was just a “heads-up” that our issues may be shared by other rate payers, and that issues, disappointments, frustrations and illogical outcomes, are shared by others too….and so another way that our communities are bought together. With shared perils?
To tie it in….wonderful events, like the carnival, perhaps happen despite the council….not because of them?
