The museum lift appears to be Out of Order more often than not. Perhaps outside lifts are just not that reliable.

Meanwhile there has been scaffolding round the Cupola, at the top of the museum, for the last 2 or 3 months. English Heritage are investigating some unexplained noises.
A Magnificent Chestnut Tree

Ten years ago, there was a magnificent chestnut tree next to the Ladygrove Meadow playpark.

I would guess it was cut down about five years ago. It had started to rot, and the hollow inside was getting bigger. Branches were probably getting dangerous.

Passing that way on Sunday I stopped to look at the clusters of fungus.

and noticed how boring insects had made some areas as soft as Balsa Wood.
The Grapes Sign

One pub that seems to be thriving since The Narrows opened is The Grapes – just over the road. The Grapes normally seems to have some sort of sport playing on the big screens. But what struck me yesterday is the new pub sign.

After a series of signs depicting bunches of grapes, they now have a 3D bunch of grapes.
Guess How Much I Love You

It was Valentine’s Day today, and in Abingdon Museum, as part of The Nature of Art Exhibition, there is an exhibit by Diccon Dadey called The ‘Guess How Much I Love You?’ Hare, inspired by the popular Children’s book of the same name.
On Saturday 20th both the artists will be there: Bill Pike, with his large canvasses showing rippling water, and Diccon Dadey, with animals wrought from metal. I had expected be there, but cannot make it now. If anybody can do a report I would be very pleased.
