Parents can consult with each other and internet sites, like mums.net, about how to prepare for the first week at school. Mumsnet.com have a lot of tips about starting school.

Pillar Box Red

Pillar Box Red
Each 1st day of the month is the “Theme Day” of the City Daily Photo Community, and September’s Theme is Red.

The cylindrical design of the British pillar box first appeared in 1879, and has changed very little since. Pillar boxes (or post boxes) are almost all red. Just a few were painted gold after the Olympics held in London in 2012 to celebrate local Olympic gold medallists.

This post box is on Abingdon Market Place.

Eben Lark has Landed

Eben Lark has Landed
Eben Lark have landed in a new Abingdon town centre location selling vintage goods for the home and garden.

They are now at the Roysse Room, once a month, and have a lot more space than when they were at their previous location, St Ethelwold’s House.

Before that Eben Lark were in at least two different shops in the town centre. But the peripatetic, pop up style, could suit them better.

There were a lot of people looking round the Roysse Room this morning. Bury Street also looked very busy.

Abingdon had an antique shop

Art and Stuff
Art & Stuff have mostly closed down although they do still have a notice saying they could be open by appointment. It has been good to have an Abingdon Antique shop where people were welcome to browse and occasionally buy stuff for almost six years.

Both Gromit the dog, and Gromit’s owner, will be doing Vintage and Antique fairs, but are retired from the 9-5 shop-keeping life. Best wishes to them both and thanks for all the art and stuff.
