New Shop Opens in Abingdon Today
The new shop in East St Helen’s Street opened today, selling furniture and ornaments.

The shop is surprisingly big. This was formerly Simon’s News but the new shop has doubled the space.

There is also a back room.

During the day they had lots of well wishers from the other businesses in East St Helen Street, and Abingdon people generally.

Eden Tots Start Friday

Eden Tots Start Friday
At the Salvation Army in West St Helen’s Street there is a new toddler group called Eden Tots starting on Friday.

The front room was once a charity shop and has been brightly decorated room for the toddler group. They could expand if things go well.

Also near the Monday Market, the man from the Salvation Army had the War Cry magazine. The War Cry has an article about Tom Hanks new film, playing TV Presenter Fred Rogers; another on the Women’s Rugby Six Nations; another on de-stigmatising mental health problems; and something on a very famous Liverpool footballer who was baptised two weeks ago, as shown on his own Instagram video https://www.instagram.com/p/B7WCbhRF-FZ/.

Cycleway Improvements start 3rd Feb 2020

Cycleway Improvements
The Peep O Day Lane cycleway (running from Abingdon Marina to Drayton) is to be closed from 3rd Feb 2020 for approximately 14 weeks so that the path can be upgraded. My guess is that will involve re-surfacing the path, cutting back vegetation, better signs and marking, and reflectors.
Cycleway Improvements
The off-road sections are being closed and not the section of road used by lorries going to the quarry. The diversion is via the cycleway up the Drayton Road and is marked.

This is all part of the larger Science Vale Cycling Network project. The project aims to provide better cycle connectivity between the employment centres at Harwell, Oxford, Milton Park and Culham Science Centre and the towns of Abingdon, Didcot, and Wantage within the Science Vale area. The improved routes for cyclists and pedestrians will make cycling a more attractive choice and encourage sustainable travel . For more information visit Science Vale Cycling Network.

Abingdon Streetscape
For a Streetscape I took some pictures of Bridge Street at around noon today and picked this one

The first time I ever came to Abingdon was by Bridge Street, having crossed the River Thames. It was a summer day and Bridge Street was crowded with people and traffic.

Streetscapes from other places round the world can be seen at http://cdpbthemeday.blogspot.com/2020/01/february-theme-day-streetscape.html .
