Abingdon Streetscape

On the 1st of each Month a group called City Daily Photo bloggers set an assignment. In 2020 the themes show off various elements of our cities and towns.
February – Streetscape
March – Municipal Building
April – School

Abingdon Streetscape
For a Streetscape I took some pictures of Bridge Street at around noon today and picked this one

The first time I ever came to Abingdon was by Bridge Street, having crossed the River Thames. It was a summer day and Bridge Street was crowded with people and traffic.

Streetscapes from other places round the world can be seen at http://cdpbthemeday.blogspot.com/2020/01/february-theme-day-streetscape.html .

Thanks for providing a daily visit to the town my grandparents were born in 130 years ago. I no longer have close relatives in town but have been in Abingdon several times and enjoy the vicarious strolls you provide.

I see that next month’s category is “Municipal Building” – can I suggest that you use a photo of Old Abbey House? It was bought by the then Borough Council in 1923 because “on the aesthetic side the town would be acquiring a historical site that ought to be in public hands.” As with most of the rest of the Borough property it was transferred to the District Council in 1974, but was in use as municipal offices until 2014. Its neglect since then is a sad contrast to those good intentions of 1923: I wonder what it will look like when the 100th anniversary comes round?
