Exhibition: working at Abingdon Community Hospital during Covid-19

Becca Collacott is a talented local photographer who works at the Abingdon Community Hospital. Since the start of the lockdown, she has taken some lovely pictures of Abingdon and its wildlife. She has also taken pictures of colleagues working at the Abingdon Emergency Multidisciplinary Unit (EMU) throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

Becca describes her experience working at the EMU. ‘When we were at the beginning of COVID-19 it was a very frightening time for us all. Having to step into the unknown left me unsure of the impact the pandemic would have on the patients and my work colleagues. I am proud to say that we badgered on and tackled what the days had in store …’

The exhibition is at Cosenor House from September 6th – 8th (10am to 9pm). It shows NHS colleagues working during the pandemic. There are also some Abingdon and wildlife pictures.

Abbey Field and Red Arrows

It looks like Daniel is airborne again with a replacement drone. He gave it a test flight near the Abbey Field development north of Abingdon, where there is now a tarmac road.

The road crosses the footpath to Sunningwell, and goes through the woodland near Tilsley Park.

More work can be seen beyond the trees with the A34 in the distance.

Daniel also emailed to say that the Red Arrows were flying over early this evening. The red arrows were returning from a show in Bournemouth and Abingdon was on the flightpath. This image is taken from Daniel’s youtube video … https://youtu.be/ySvZ0dUBJEs.

Abingdon Healthfest 2021

Dave Butterworth, and colleagues from Healthy Abingdon, organised the Abingdon Healthfest on Abingdon Market Place. There were thirteen stalls with different community groups. The event was sponsored by Penlon, the Abingdon company that makes lots of important equipment for the health sector.

One of Abingdon’s Guild of Town Criers was there to announce the events. He also did a cry from on top of the County Hall roof.

The Mayor of Abingdon-on-Thames, Cllr Cheryl Briggs, spoke to a lot of the stalls.

A fire engine from the Abingdon Fire Station was on display. The fire service were promoting Bikeability (cycle training).

Last weekend I showed Mr. Busby and his Beekeeping business. This week he was there on the Abingdon Free Wheelers cycle stand. They have a calendar of weekly rides for all abilities.

Abingdon Athletics Club has coaching sessions on track and road running. Look at Abingdon Athletic Club to find out more.

Dementia Friendly Abingdon aim to make the town more supportive of people affected by dementia, and their carers.

* Talking Space Plus were giving out stress balls. If a stress ball is not enough, they also have videos and material to help and can arrange free talking therapies.

Homebase to open in September

Homebase will be opening its store in the Fairacres retail park later in September. Some of the staff, made redundant when the old store was closed for demolition in 2019, could well return.

The store takes the last three units at the Fairacres phase 2 redevelopment. Fairacres is full. The new garden center was an addition to the original development and is completed and being filled with stock.
