Thanks to Steve King for the first two pictures The first is of “Townsend” in South Abingdon. Steve says “Little wonder it flooded, the front gardens on one side of the entire road have been paved over, the water has nowhere to go !”

The second was taken this morning on Nags Head Island, and shows the narrow boat “Queen of Hearts” has sunk. It had lost its rear mooring a couple of weeks back when part of the bank gave way. It was moored again but sadly things have gone wrong and the consequences have been more severe.

The River Thames is no longer as high as during its peak in January but more rain over the last week has seen the River rise again. Many fields are still underwater like these looking from Peep-o-Day Lane towards Didcot Power Station.

The Marina Park is still an island. It may well have been cut off since Christmas.
Sunningwell School of Art in the Community Shop

This week at the Community Shop there is an exhibition by students at Sunningwell School of Art. The art on display is from one of their many course – Diana Bell’s Course “A New Focus on Painting” where students are encouraged to explore more abstract art.

So you will be very welcome to look round all this week at the exhibition (Monday, 3rd February to Saturday, 8th February 2014, 10:00am-4:00pm.)
I gather that Diana Bell did the big boot and other sculptures at Kingsoak, Abingdon.
ENTRY
February’s theme for City Daily Photo is ENTRY …

Above the door of Old Abbey House is the victorian epigram: “Through this wide open gate, none come too early; none returns too late.”
This building has been the offices of Abingdon Town Council for some years. But with the Town Council moving to the Guildhall, the future use of this building and its public gardens are unknown.
Will the Vale of White Horse District Council, who own the building, ensure public entry to the gardens?
More Bike Thefts in Abingdon

George says “A couple of months ago my Granddaughters’ lovely Dawes cycle was stolen outside the Boundary House. This week the wheels of my son’s pride and joy were stolen whilst chained up on Stratton Way. What’s it all coming to?”
These are not the first cases I have heard about recently. Take care, thieves operating.
