Keeping it Local

< As an ex-resident of Tithe Farm Estate it is always good to see the Tithe Farm and Ladygrove Newslettter. There is usually a copy in the library alongside the Marcham and District News. < This winter's edition mentions the removal of a tree, bench, and some shrubs from Longfellow Green. The bench will be replaced but not the shrubs.
A resident wrote in to the previous edition calling for speed bumps along Mill Road (the main arterial road between Tithe Farm and Ladygrove). But letters to the latest edition show that there are arguments on both sides.

The newsletter celebrates an improved evening bus service between Didcot and Oxford (bus stop nearby) with the X2 running in the evening.

There has been a three part series on “The Poets of Tithe Farm.” All the roads are named after poets. Part three is about Tennyson and Longfellow “the odd man out of our poets as he was an American“.

There is always a regular piece about the seasons of the garden.

Eleanor keeps the newsletter running. She also keeps the Green Gym running.

View from Spike’s Office

Thanks to Spike for this view out of his Office at 8,000 feet. He was working at the weekend and sent a picture looking down on The Abingdon Broads.

I was also asked to mention by a friend that the Abingdon Anglo-German Club has their first talk of the year. It is titled… PARACELSUS: Renewing Medicine and Changing Society. It is on Thursday 7:30pm at The Abbey Chapel.

Abingdon Events in shop windows have taken off this week, after the lull over the new year …

Abingdon Drama Club have their annual family pantomime – an alternative Cinderella.

Harps Loss Cross Keys gain

The Christmas Lights are down, and floods are abating. So what else has been happening. It appears that The Harp, (formerly Plough) on Stert Street, has closed and the Cross Keys has re-opened.

The Harp’s loss is the Cross Keys’ Gain. The Proprietors have moved from one to t’other.

Flood Update : Sporting Cancellations, Stranded Boats, Sunrise, etc.

Yesterday’s home game at Abingdon Town FC was postponed.

The Abingdon Parkrun, which starts and ends in Rye Farm Meadow (shown above), was cancelled. Organisers said “The risk to safety is too great to stage this weekend’s event.

Moored Boats appear to have survived without the scaffolding used during some previous floods.

There have been having some good sunsets and sunrises – picture taken this morning at the Abbey Meadows.

Thanks to David for the final picture taken yesterday morning at 9:30. He says “The stranded boat that was in Abingdon has moved on again and is caught in the safety fence before Culham weir.”
