Thanks to Spike for this view out of his Office at 8,000 feet. He was working at the weekend and sent a picture looking down on The Abingdon Broads.
I was also asked to mention by a friend that the Abingdon Anglo-German Club has their first talk of the year. It is titled… PARACELSUS: Renewing Medicine and Changing Society. It is on Thursday 7:30pm at The Abbey Chapel.
Abingdon Events in shop windows have taken off this week, after the lull over the new year …
Abingdon Drama Club have their annual family pantomime – an alternative Cinderella.
wow, nice pic Spike. Took me a few minutes to work out the route of the River !
Should Oxford construct this western diversion channel then won’t Abingdon experience even higher flood levels ?
Maybe Abingdon is considered expendable.
Being a diversion system, IE concrete channel as wide as Thames, then each section/county would have to add to it and set up their own diversions.
Dumping the water into the Thames other side of a lock. would send the flooding further down the system…
Did the canal system act in this way?? Abingdon to Oxford, with the canal basin in Worc street. Maybe reactivate/enlarge the national canal system??…
“Spike’s office at FL80” ? Not me. I used to drive paraffin-to-vibration converters but I’m better now.
Wonderful picture. All pictures are copyright but it would be nice to see one at a higher resolution to look at some of the detail as most of Abingdon is visible. Certainly should be considered as an exhibit in the museum. Brilliant.
With the river level down by almost 60cm , and continuing to fall, surely its time to remove the barriers at Margaret Brown
Gardens. – Not looked to see if Ock Walk is still closed off to !
Shellsuit I can send you the original photo via email if you wish, I took about 5 different shots as we passed over.
Spike Had to think about your comment “Spike’s office at FL80″ ? Not me. I used to drive paraffin-to-vibration converters but I’m better now”.
Until the penny dropped that is. V funny comment. 😉
…if I look very closely at the aerial photo…I can see that my wife hung the washing out on that sunny day. i have told her not to hang the shirts like that…”tut”.
Daniel I would be more concerned about the 3.0 ltr Black Capri that was parked on the drive!
Don’t worry Spike…it’s taxed.
