Family Carol Service causes road chaos in Abingdon

Carol Service
East St Helen Street was blocked by a Co-op lorry earlier this evening. The driver got out of his cab when he could not drive through the parked cars.

Cars stuck behind the lorry then reversed back up East St Helen Street and some of them drove down West St Helen Street the wrong way.
Carol Service
There was a carol service at St Helen’s Church and all the surrounding roads were chock-a-block with parked cars. Parents had desperately tried to get their children to church on time, and many parked wherever they could.

Online shoppers come to Abingdon Town Centre

ByBox
Just in time for Christmas, a new system for collecting your parcels has arrived in Abingdon . It is for people who are never at home when the postman calls and find getting to to the sorting office on Ock Street on Saturday Morning inconvenient.
ByBox
For a fee you can have your parcels delivered to the nearest ByBox. You will then be texted or emailed a code, and be able pick up the parcel. Then there is nothing to stop you offline shopping in the town centre shops.

For more information see My.ByBox. Bybox are based in Wantage and launched the first My ByBox in 2009.

Abingdon Christmas Craft Fair

Christmas Craft Fair
Each Saturday before Christmas there will be something happening on the Market Place in Abingdon. 15 December will see a Nativity Themed Day, and 22 December owls and a giftwrapping Service. Yesterday was the annual Christmas Craft Fair.
Christmas Craft Fair
At the Craft Fair there were a lot of stalls, and a number of performances from bands and singing groups. The Abingdon Passion choir gave, possibly, their first public performance and sounded very good.

Stonehill House – Looking to the future

Stonehill House - Future Plans
Stonehill House is in the neighbouring parish of Drayton, but with a fence that runs along the south of Abingdon. There was an open day today, with a chance to view the extensive grounds and hear how the current owner would like to see them developed.
Stonehill House - Future Plans
One of the guides taking us round said it was an excellent place to watch badgers, bats and deer, and there is a fine wild flower meadow. The sites of the badger sets were very clear to see.
Stonehill House - Future Plans
The field separating the grounds of Stonehill House from Abingdon is the one that a developer is currently looking to build 160 houses. That would effectively mean that there would no longer be fields between houses in Abingdon and Drayton.
Stonehill House - Future Plans
The owners have plans to create a community garden, and area of wildlife conservation on this site.  A representative from the Bridewell Organic Gardens charity near Witney spoke about how they would like to develop a therapeutic gardening project at Stonehill House – for people who have experienced mental ill-health difficulties.
Stonehill House - Future Plans
There will be another Open Day, about May next year, to allow more local people to find out more about all the plans for the grounds of Stonehill House.
