Festival of One Act Plays

Three plays from the One Act Play Festival, at the Unicorn Theatre, were asked back as the adjudicator’s choice on the final Saturday night.

Then at the end of the evening two prizes were on offer, to be presented by the patron of the drama festival, Colin Dextor.

Both went to a hilarious play called ‘A Dog’s Life’ written by Pam Valentine and performed by Henley Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society. It involved four dogs in a dog rescue centre.

Good to see Pam back at the Unicorn making things happen – behind the scenes.

What does Pente cost

Pentecost
In the puppet theatre tent were two Muppet style puppets …
Pentecost
Muppet 1: I’m counting my money. I don’t think I have enough money to go to church this Sunday.
Muppet 2: What do you mean?
Muppet 1: How much does Pente cost?
Muppet 2: Pentecost is not something you can buy!
Pentecost
The Church in Abingdon were out on the Market Place celebrating what they call the birthday of the church –  which happened on the Jewish feast of Pentecost.

And so they made a party out of it with cake, games, face painting, and muppets. Tomorrow some churches will be celebrating pentecost, others I am told celebrate pentecost all the time so don’t need a particular Sunday.

Advertising signs

Vandalism
The Abingdon Herald told how an Estate Agent sawed through two thick vine branches to erect their sign on Bath Street. Somebody has now graffitied the word ‘Vandals’ on the sign.
Hope
Last year a sign was erected across the High Street to advertise that the Outdoor Pool was open. Very soon after one of the ropes snapped and it ended up wrapped round a traffic light. This year the ropes have held firm but the sign has still been twisted and torn by the wind. But it has lasted longer.
