Footpath to Shippon

Wildmoor
Nowadays an old wooden style near the Wootton Road roundabout makes one end of an old right of way between garden fences. The footpath bypasses the obsolete style, and may have previously gone further.
Wildmoor
The path is behind the houses of Bourlon Wood, one of a number of roads in this area named after WWI battlefields. It also passes an area of green, half of which is surrounded by a fence with a notice saying ‘No Dogs’. There is no play equipment.
Wildmoor
The right of way comes out near a footbridge over the A34 that heads over to Shippon. Crossing the Copenhagen Drive can be difficult at this point as it is part of the Abingdon outer circular way.
Wildmoor
The footbridge also connects Abingdon to the Wildmoor Allotments, owned by Abingdon-on-Thames Town Council.

I believe the council lease the allotments from a local farmer.

The footpath runs between fields

and comes out on the drive of Stowford House Care Home in Shippon on the Faringdon Road.

The Faringdon Road connects Shippon and Abingdon by way of a bridge over the A34 and Copenhagen Drive.

Fine snow

cold snap
There were only food stalls at the Abingdon Monday Market.

Fine snow fell during the night and collected between the stones of the Market Place.
cold snap
It felt cold with temperatures below zero and the pavement was slippery in places.
cold snap
Temperatures remained below zero throughout the day. Snow flakes were falling a lot of the day but they fell so sparsely that each flake or granule could be seen.

The weather forecast predicts more cold days.

Tough time for retailers

business change
It must be a tough time for retailers. The Peacocks store in Abingdon is now empty. The closing down sale only got down to about 20% off, then lockdown happened and now they have cleared the store.
business change
The proprietor of Abingdon Sports retired and the premises has been showing as Under Offer for a few weeks.
business change
One shop in West St Helen Street has been empty for a year. It was a nail salon before moving to Stert Street, and will now become a different nail salon.
