Goodbye Hercules!

Three RAF Hercules took part in a national tour that included a flypast over Dalton Barracks today .

The flypast allowed people to see the aircraft on its retirement day. The RAF Hercules, a transport aircraft, and the workhorse of the RAF, began service in 1967.

The Hercules was based at RAF Brize Norton, but often landed at Dalton Barracks near Abingdon. The aircraft was also seen at the Abingdon Air and Country Show in May 2023 at Dalton Barracks.

Thankyou to Malvin for letting me know this was happening.

The Weather has been Wild and Wonderful this Week

For three days in a row, warm sunny days were followed by thunderstorms.  The storms cooled things down and flattened a few plants, but by next morning the weather warmed up again.

Yesterday (Monday), a few of us got caught under the Abbey Gateway during a downpour. The rain was heavy for a few minutes, and the rumbles of thunder were sometimes continuous.

I took a short video of the storm, which you can see below. There is no lightening strike …

Great Big Green Week in Abingdon (and two big tea parties)

The Great Big Green Week is a nationwide celebration of action on climate change, taking place across the UK from 10th to 18th June 2023. In Abingdon, there are a number of events taking place to mark the week. Abingdon Library has a big green display, and on Saturday will have a story time where children can learn about the environment and how to protect it.

There will also be:
* Repair workshops, where people can learn how to fix their own belongings, rather than throwing them away.
* Craft activities, where people can create sustainable items.
* Sustainable meals, where people can enjoy food that has been produced in an environmentally friendly way

Fuller details of all events can be found at https://oneplanetabingdon.org/events/

On Saturday, there will be a cream tea fundraiser at St Michael & All Angel’s Church, near Albert Park. All proceeds will go to the church’s funds.

On Sunday, there will be a Garden Tea Party at St Ethelwold’s House to help raise funds for the next Abingdon Passion Play.
