On the Market Place in Abingdon today and until late is the 4th Free Music Festival “Yeah Baby”. First picture shows the Blind Dogs Blues Band (from Sutton Courtney, Drayton, and Wantage).

For the first time there is a beer stall on the Market Place – so a bit of a trial.

Money is being raised for the Festival Charities which are all on the Yeah Baby Website

Florian Stoermer ran a Marathon and a half, ending on the Market Place soon after noon, and raised over £2,000 for the charities. The sun is warming up now. The early rain is gone.

There will be lots more bands through the day.
Not in the Fat Elephant

I hope Mostly Books archive the posters that appear in their window. They make an interesting history of Whats been On in Abingdon since 2006.
There is Wife after Death by the Abingdon Drama Club this week, and Yeah Baby 4. The Glorious Art of Peace, and The Lost Forest of Bernwood is next.

Round the other side of Mostly Books I see “It’s been 25 years. Have you found Wally Yet”
Wally is to be found in a number of shops in town as part of a competition running this month. For example …

Wally’s making lovely things on Bath Street, but not in the ‘Fat Elephant’. Where might he be?
Sun Shines on Church Olympics
I did see a report recently about the inter school olympics in Abingdon.

Another less publicised event, last weekend, was the church olympics in the Albert Park – where St Helen’s, St Nicolas and St Michael’s churches held a picnic and Olympics challenge in Albert Park.

The Rector of Abingdon, the Revd Dr Charles Miller, can be seen trying his hand at the javelin.
There was also a picture of Clare, the Revd Jane Baun and Tony from St Nicolas Church sharing a high-five after winning silver in the jug-of-water race.
Thanks to Tony, for the report. He says “The sun shone.”
Olympic Torch Relay Through Abingdon
Many thanks to everybody who sent pictures of the Olympic Torch being carried through Abingdon.

The first picture is of the torch relay at 7:41am, precisely, as it started at the roundabout at the top end of Oxford Road. The first runner is 007.

Stuart captured the torch relay handover at the Boundary House.

Beryl sent pictures from the Oxford Road at the junction with St Johns Road.

Andy picked up the coverage as the torch was carried from the Oxford Road and down the Vineyard.

Half way down Stert Street Syd caught the next torch carrier.

Kev was there early and had a good position at the lower end of Stert Street, where the crowd was spilling onto the roads. Abingdon had many marshalls, including soldiers from Dalton Barracks. My wife said the atmosphere was amazing.

By the time the torch had reached Paul outside his shop in Bridge Street the crowds were enormous and there was no controlling them. This runner is Margaret Brown.

Here Margaret is again thanks to Stephen. I got more pictures of Margaret than any other torch holder. The crowd thinned a little over Abingdon Bridge.
Many thanks for all the pictures. Sorry I have not used more.
