The channel behind Abingdon Lock has been cleared and landscaped over the winter. One of the helpers has been secretly working on his own pet project – a fallen tree trunk has been turned into a crocodile .

There are a lot of fallen tree trunks around Abingdon Lock. What if they all turned into crocodiles?
Photographic Matters

Martin Wackenier has had a love of photograhy from an early age. As well as running a photography business for the last five years, he has started a project to capture The People of Abingdon with 2000 images.

The Abingdon Camera Club annual open competition is now open with two categories: Adults and Under 16s. Winning entries will be displayed in the Community Shop.
My brother in law can’t use his old camera anymore – because of muscular dystrophy, and has given me the Pentax camera with lens filters, flash gun, telephoto lens, and camera care kit. All wonderfully kept. I put a B&W 35mm film in on Sunday, and wasted the first shot on the ceiling, but can’t wait to see the results of the other pictures in 3 or 4 weeks time.
Abingdon Freewheeling Cycle Festival 2015
The Abingdon Freewheeling Cycle Festival took place today, on a cool Sunday in April. There was a road closure, on High Street, to allow more stalls than ever before.

Cycle rides, free for everyone, were setting off from Abingdon Market Place at regular intervals from 9am to 1:30pm – with about thirty rides in total. They ranged from 5 mile family rides …

to 40 mile fast rides, or 50 mile off road orienteering courses.

The last ride was a 10-15 mile Retro Fun Ride.

New this year was a Shoretrax woodern track for the BMXers and Mountain Bikers.

The Abingdon-on-Thames Town Crier was both Master of Ceremonies – calling riders to order at the start of rides, and festival mascot – he appears on the cycle festival leaflets and fliers.

There were many cycle related stalls, food wagons, live groups playing music, and massages.
Swimathon

At the White Horse Leisure Centre this weekend there are people taking part in a sponsored Swimathon to raise money for Marie Curie cancer care, on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings.
Most of the participants are talented young swimmers, either swimming in teams, or doing an individual distance. There are also adults of varying abilities,
I went along, and swam my target distance, despite swallowing half the pool. Thanks to people who sponsored me!
