A Baker and his wife live in a village where they all wish for something they can’t have. The Baker and his wife wish for a child, but they soon find out that because of a family curse they must first get magical items from classic fairy tales.

A woman cannot forget her twin brother who died fifteen years before. She still hears him calling to her. As a result she lives a detached existence.

A group of friends, all married on the same day in the same chapel, gather to celebrate their silver anniversary. They discover ‘shock horror’ that they are not legally married.

Annual Civic Service

Civic Service
This morning the annual civic service took place at St Helen’s Church.

An array of civic dignitaries set off from the Guildhall towards the church led by the maces of Abingdon-on-Thames and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. The Mayor of Abingdon for 2017-18, Councillor Jan Morter, was accompanied by the Mayor of Kensington and Chelsea, and other dignatories including up to 18 members of Abingdon Town Council. There is an ancient connection between Kensington and the Abbey of Abingdon dating back to the 1100s. The civic connection was revived in the 1950s, and Mayors now take it in turns to attend each other’s civic service.

Abingdon Heritage Open Day 2017

Heritage Open Day
As part of Heritage Open Day it was good to see cars made in Abingdon – still going strong although the MG factory closed in 1980. They don’t make them like that anymore. Bob Frampton, in the picture, is writing a book on MGs called Made in Abingdon.

Heritage Open Day
Ride and Stride was also happening with over 500 churches and chapels open in Oxfordshire including St Helen’s Church. This annual event always coincides with Heritage Open day, during the 2nd weekend of September, and ensures the churches are open for two good reasons.
