Jubilee displays are already out in some locations in Abingdon Town Centre. The upstairs display case in Abingdon Library has mementoes from the Coronation.

Above that are pictures of royal bun throwing in Abingdon, including several pictures from the Diamond Jubilee in 2012.

An exhibition in Abingdon Museum looks back at the seven decades of the Queen’s reign with information about changes in Abingdon and the country during each decade. As part of the exhibition are cases with coronation souvenirs and buns.

Masons in Bath Street have a jubilee window display.

Acacia also has a jubilee window display.

Announcing St. Michael’s Dog Cafe and The Melstock Choir

St. Michael’s Dog Cafe, which operates every Sunday morning from 11-12 in Park Road, caters for dog walkers and their pooches in Albert Park. The home-baked dog treats (using a recipe from the Battersea dogs’ home!) are free; tea, coffee, and cakes are sold to owners.

It was launched at the end of April and got off to a good start,

A costume presentation of music, song and spoken word, with early and modern instruments, will take place at The Unicorn Theatre on 15th May. The Shepherd’s Calendar follows the festivities of the rural year from winter through spring and summer to harvest-time, with the words of Thomas Hardy, John Clare and the Dorset poet William Barnes introducing songs and instrumental music.

Birdsong after rain

This afternoon, there was a rain shower that sent many people looking for shelter.

People stood at the back of the County Hall undercroft as rain blew in at the front

The rain soon cleared, and I took this video of the garden at St Ethelwolds House with the sound of birdsong after the rain.

The Kingsgate development has dozens of occupied houses now. As well as Morgan Vale, already mentioned, there are two more road names: Wivell Drive for William Wivell, who was mayor from 1992-3; and

Prosser Way. Jeanette Rickus-Prosser was mayor from 1998-9. She subsequently became known as Jeanette Halliday.

Over the road, work is underway on the new store.

Looking at the entrance to Abingdon nearby, the 2 hours free has been edited after recent parking changes. The sign may also need to move to the new boundary.

Work is also progressing on the Abbey Fields development.

There are welcome signs for potential viewers and a Thankyou for Visiting Abbey Fields on exiting.

A drainage channel has been created near the Oxford Road end of Dunmore Road. The channel runs into a small lake, but I don’t know where it goes from there.
