Abingdon Foodbank donations outside Waitrose

Abingdon Foodbank team members from the Abingdon Vineyard Church and Christchurch were welcomed at Waitrose to receive donations for Christmas Parcels to support families again this year. Last year 250 families received parcels through the Foodbank and support agencies, and the need is expected to be more this year. The team leader commented that they are so pleased with the generosity of shoppers with food items and cash donations, all of which will help to support those in need in Abingdon and surrounding areas.
Waitrose host a permanent donation point for the Abingdon Foodbank in their store, which provides a welcome regular source of food items for distribution through the North and South Foodbank centres. Our thanks go to all those who regularly donate and, of course, to the Christmas donations that do so well in meeting the needs of those less fortunate families.
(Thanks to Ray for this)
Abingdon Baptist Church Do Excellent Fayre

The Mayor of Abingdon, Andy Foulsham, and Sally Foulsham were at Abingdon Baptist Church this morning to open the Christmas Fayre. They are pictured here with the Abingdon Town Crier and the new Minister at the Baptist Church, Revd Rachel Hughes.

On the way in, we were welcomed and given a Christmas card with the Christmas service times and a ticket for a free cup of coffee at 35 Ock Street. Inside were tables with competitions and things to buy – new and second-hand. Money raised goes towards the church development project.

In the back room, there was a Christmas Tree exhibition.
If anybody can improve on the ABCDEF title, please comment.
Radley Lakes – November 2022

Here is the view across Thrupp Lake from the far side. The Michaelmas daisies are now fluffy seedheads, and their stalks and leaves turn black.

Here is a similar view from behind the bench dedicated to Basil Crowley – Chairman of Save Radley Lakes from 2005 -2010. He used to take photographs around the lakes that appeared on the cards sold to raise funds for Save Radley Lakes.

Another seat has a plaque to James Culling of the Earth Trust, who currently runs the Radley Lakes wildlife area with the support of the Radley Lakes Trust.

There seemed to be more ducks on Thrupp Lake on my monthly walk today. Ducks included mallards and black and white ducks too far away for me to identify.

There were also half a dozen swans.
November has brought rain. The smaller lakes that seemed to be drying up have filled with water, and even the paths in places have filled with water.
