La Baguette led the way

La Baguette
La Baguette have been serving baguettes with fillings in Abingdon for over twenty years. The shop first appeared about 1996 between Supa-Snaps and Stroll’in.

La Baguette was a trend setter and has done well as an independent business in Abingdon and built up a dedicated following.

To those customer there is a final thank you note in a window pane.

In 2018, La Baguette have Costa and R&R, not far away either side of them. Then either side of them are Pablo Lounge and Java & CO. All of them are also catering businesses with much larger premises, and far more seats.

The Market Place in Abingdon has become a cafe culture. La Baguette led the way.

Oxfordshire Chilli Festival 2018

Oxfordshire Chilli Festival
On Abingdon Market Place today the fourth Oxfordshire Chilli Festival took centre stage.
Oxfordshire Chilli Festival
That attracted a number of stalls selling chillis and chilli sauces. There were also a number of other vans and stalls serving hot food, and …
Oxfordshire Chilli Festival
for the first time, in Abingdon, rolled ice cream – a fine anti-dote to chilli.
Oxfordshire Chilli Festival
There was some good live music,

and, to help you enjoy the music, cider from Somerset.

Then towards the end of the festival a very exciting chilli eating contest. Contestants were not allowed to drink, and were supplied with hotter and hotter chillis until the eight contestants

were reduced to two. The guy who had been so cool throughout, eating the chillis faster than anybody else, decided to leave, leaving it to the two ladies.
Oxfordshire Chilli Festival
Last year’s winner, Shaheena was back against the pain again. Last year she was up against Anthony, who had to drop out in fourth place this year. He had not been too well last week so could not give it his best shot.

But after her rival reached for the cup of milk Shaheena realised she had won again.

Eye Spy Litter Bins

Eye Spy Litter Bins
There is a page on the Friends of Abingdon web site for the AbiBinit! Litter Picking Initiative. They will help organise group litter picks, and have one on Saturday 25th August. The meeting point is at Reynolds Way at 10am.
Eye Spy Litter Bins
Here in the town centre you are normally never further than thirty paces from the nearest litter bin. But there are still some people who do not find them, particularly when it comes to coffee containers and styrofoam food containers.
Eye Spy Litter Bins
Not all litter bins have the word LITTER on them. Some of them have a picture of a person dropping litter into a bin.
Eye Spy Litter Bins
Others have no LITTER word or picture. (Extra points for spying one of these.)
