Churchill Retirement Living

Churchills
Churchill Retirement Living will be building retirement apartments on the site of the old Bellinger car dealership.

It is not going to be the new home of Harley Davidson, Oxfordshire, who recently moved from their showroom in Wootton. They have moved instead to Nuffield Way – on the Abingdon Business Park.

150th and 10th church anniversaries

St Michaels
The church of St Michael and All Angels was consecrated on 25 January 1867 by Bishop Samuel Wilberforce and will be celebrating their 150th Anniversary on 25 January 2017 with a Sung Mass at 7.30 pm led by the Bishop of Dorchester. I look forward to getting a guest blog from Colin who is going to the event.

Another church in Abingdon celebrating an anniversary is the Vineyard Church. They do not meet in the Vineyard as the name would suggest. They have been meeting at Preston Road Community Centre for ten years now.

Wonderful ways to exercise on a bright frosty Saturday morning in Abingdon

Frosty Start
A frosty but bright start greeted us in Abingdon-on-Thames this morning. There are lots of wonderful ways to exercise beside the River Thames on such a morning. A gaggle of geese start us off with a gentle stretch.

The more energetic 5km park run begins at 9:00am and sets off at a gallop down the farm road by Rye Farm.

Then there is rowing

and cycling …

and walking. Dog walkers stride or amble the circuit across the weir, and back along the other bank – possibly much further.

The possibilities are almost endless … games of tag, stretching, sit-ups, press-ups, lifting, and tree tugging etc. etc. etc.

Bridges not Walls

Bridges not Walls
People in Abingdon displayed a banner “Bridges not Walls” on Abingdon Bridge as part of a national event taking part on bridges up and down the land.
Bridges not Walls
The event was planned for the day of the inauguration of the new President of the United States of America. The second picture is the old workhouse wall near Boxhill Road. The new President has pledged to build a big wall between the USA and Mexico.

The Abingdon Bridge gathering was organised by a new group called ‘Abingdon More in Common’
