The six week deadline for Old Abbey House has gone

six week deadline
The six week deadline notice, attached to the railings of Old Abbey House, has been removed in the last 24 hours.

It notified community groups that they had six weeks to register an interest in taking over the property. They would then have been given four and a half months to put together a bid.

If there have been no expressions of interest, Old Abbey House will be put back on the market by the Vale of White Horse District Council as ‘surplus to requirements’.

So could the gardens – an integral part of the Green Flag Award winning Abbey Gardens – one day be shut off from public access?

Some recent shop changes in Abingdon

Shop Changes
The new Polish Delicatessen at the top of West St Helen Street seem to be doing well since they opened about two weeks ago.

The last Polish Deli, called ‘PolDeli’, was on Stert Street, and closed in 2008 – soon after the Banking Collapse.
Shop Changes
The shop previously known as Mary Brooks will be opening soon as Re-Style, a Traditional Turkish Barber. There is already one very successful Traditional Turkish Barber at the other end of the High Street – opened in June 2014.
Shop Changes
Throwing Buns has a fresh new front.

Work is ongoing in the shop that was the OX14 Deli, so there is every chance a new business will be opening there in the months ahead.

Some recent street art in Abingdon

Street Art
Peter sent me a picture showing a painting attached to the sign of the Drayton Road development.

Somebody has taken issue about those houses. They are not objecting that they are being built against local people’s wishes, but because they will not make housing affordable.
Street Art
On Bridge Street a lot of the shops got some overnight Friday night street art. It was not Banksy art, and quite rude in places, and so got removed.
