Work is progressing well on changing St Edmund House from offices to flats, and during the process the roads near us on West St Helen Street – formerly known as the Back Street, have been dug up to connect the flats with water and sewerage.

The road has also been dug up further down, and a new green cabinet installed to connect more telephone and superfast broadband lines.

The old green box bulged with so many multi-coloured cables that it was a wonder BT engineers could ever disentangle them to get them to the correct property.

Two upcoming events
John Mason School has taken on a whole new venture this year – a production of Henry Purcell’s 1689 opera, Dido and Aeneas. The dedicated cast of 20 students has been working hard since the spring to bring you Purcell’s wonderful story of Dido.

It tells the tale of the Queen of Carthage, Dido, and the Trojan prince, Aeneas. When Aeneas and his crew become shipwrecked in Carthage, he and the Queen fall in love. The path of true love does not run smoothly as some witches plot Dido’s destruction.

The beautiful music will be performed by JMS musicians, and performances will be in the Amey Theatre at Abingdon school on 12th and 13th July.
