Next to the public toilets in the Abbey Meadows, the Abingdon Carbon Cutters have planted bee friendly flowers.
Plants chosen are easy to grow and full of nectar to feed bees, and are chosen to flower at different times throughout the season. For more about how to plant to attract bees, and other things the Carbon Cutters do, see Abingdon Carbon Cutters (Bee Friendly Flowers can be found under the food menu on their site.)

4 days until The Abingdon Passion Play – still time to make a palm leaf
On Saturday I heard there were actors from the Abingdon Passion Play in town and went out with my camera, but couldn’t find Jesus. So I was very pleased to be sent some pictures – taken at last weekend’s rehearsal.
The main performance will be this coming Sunday from 1pm – for soaking up the atmosphere, and 2pm for the main performance in the Abbey Gardens. Children and adults can even be part of the experience by dressing as a biblical character and bringing a ‘palm leaf’ to wave.
More details about it all at www.abingdonpassionplay.org.uk.
Abingdon Passion Play – 12 days to go
On Palm Sunday at 2pm in the Abbey Gardens the Abingdon Passions Play will begin and run for about 2 hours.
The play needed a Donkey and one was found one thanks to an appeal and article in the Abingdon Herald.
They needed Roman Soldiers and now some have been found thanks to the Can Do Martial Arts who will swap kimonos for tunics and armour.
There will be choirs and bands – lots of community groups will take part. There will be performers, and a crowd.
The crowd can start to mingle from 1pm on Palm Sunday when the Abbey Gardens will become Jerusalem and Abingdon -> Abingammergau. Each scene will take place in a different location within the Abbey Gardens: from Jesus’ triumphal entry on the donkey, his arrest and false trial, and finally his crucifixion and the resurrection. The crowd can follow the action as it unfolds.
In the case of heavy rainfall the performance will take place in St Helen’s Church.
Bright Frosty Start to Sunday
There was a frosty start to the day as we walked out through the Abbey Gardens past Trendell’s Folly.
The clear air and low sun made for a dazzling view across the River Thames.
The water sprinklers are fenced off, and the blue matting removed, for an out of season overhaul.
At 9 am there were a number of dog walkers, some joggers, a family feeding the ducks, and another young family in the play area – enjoying it all to themselves. There are probably crowds there this afternoon.
