Christian Aid Week and East St Helen Street Bunting

On the Market Place today, a stall was selling cakes, plants and books for Christian Aid. Christian Aid week ran from 15th – 21st May. There was some door to door collections using paper envelopes. This year there is also the Abingdon e-envelope for online donations: https://envelope.christianaid.org.uk/envelope/abingdon-christian-aid

This morning the people of East St Helen Street were putting up their bunting for the Jubilee celebrations.

I am not sure we on West St Helen Street will be able to match them, but we will see. Two weeks to go.

Abingdon preparing for Queen’s platinum jubilee with dozens of flags and a jigsaw

Jubilee flags were being put up around the town centre this morning.

Near the Town Council building, there were three of them.

A four-day celebration is at the centre of Abingdon’s plans to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee. Many events will be happening at Rye Farm Meadow, some free, some ticketed. The full list, including how to buy tickets, is at https://www.abingdon.gov.uk/platinum-jubilee-2022.

At Abingdon Library, there is usually a jigsaw anybody can help with. The latest is the
Our Glorious Queen 1000 Piece Jigsaw Puzzle where people can piece together the Queen in her many guises: young, older, regal, intrigued, thoughtful, happy and glorious; long to reign over us.

Royal Post Box Topper

A new post box topper has arrived on Abingdon Market Place in preparation for the Jubilee.

Today was more overcast and rainy. These pictures were from yesterday when it was sunny. There were also musicians on the Market Place.

Platinum Jubilee displays

Jubilee displays are already out in some locations in Abingdon Town Centre. The upstairs display case in Abingdon Library has mementoes from the Coronation.

Above that are pictures of royal bun throwing in Abingdon, including several pictures from the Diamond Jubilee in 2012.

An exhibition in Abingdon Museum looks back at the seven decades of the Queen’s reign with information about changes in Abingdon and the country during each decade. As part of the exhibition are cases with coronation souvenirs and buns.

Masons in Bath Street have a jubilee window display.

Acacia also has a jubilee window display.
