Splash of Pink - preview
You may have noticed that shop windows (such as Pure Marie) have had ‘Against Breast Cancer’ pink balloons and displays at some time this month. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a chance to raise awareness of the disease, and to help raise funds to research better ways of treatment.

That is what locally based charity, Against Breast Cancer, is all about, and they will be taking over the Market Place on Saturday 27th October to give everybody a chance to enjoy a Splash of Pink before October ends.

Kerry Katona, Bobby Davro, and former world boxing champion Steve Collins will be there among others. See Splash of Pink for more details.

(If anybody is available the day before (Friday) from 8am to 10am and would like to support the charity for a couple of hours please Email: info@againstbreastcancer.org.uk . Also if anybody has always wanted to do a firewalk then Saturday could be your chance … follow the link to the firewalk.)

Balloon Release

It is a few years since there has been a Balloon Release seen on this blog.
Balloon Release
Last week at the Dragon Boat racing there was a balloon release.

This was done as a fund raising event for St Nics Church and was organised by Lorraine, Tim, Pauline, and John. The church needs to find new ways of raising money to make ends meet and this was one idea. St Nics give such a service to the town centre being open for visitors so even if you didn’t buy a balloon they would still value donations.

Thanks to Mike for the pictures and wife Kathy (of Centre-Stage fame in Coxeter House) for the balloons.

From Drag Racing to Dragon Boat Racing in 8 days

Drag Racing
Bath Street was closed to traffic today as teams of cross dressed persons competed in the first ever Abingdon Drag Racing competition. They had 5 hours to visit 17 pubs and answer a lot of quiz questions. The winners with the most points won a trophy, and it was all done to raise funds for Mind and the Stroke Association.
Drag Racing
A stage had been made from scaffold poles in the Poundland delivery area – and groups – some very good – were performing during the day, and evening, outside the Black Swan.

More can be found on the Abingdon Drag Racing Facebook.

Next weekend, on Sunday from 10:30, sees the postponed Dragon Boat Racing.
