Winding up Action4Abingdon

Action 4 Abingdon
The final post appeared on the action4abingdon forum 3 days ago saying “… As you know we created the forum as a vehicle to lobby for improvements to the then newly implemented Abits scheme. This, along with our 250 business signature petition and the Independent Traffic Report resulted in no less than 12 significant changes to the layout.

The forum soon became a good platform for all things Abingdon and has had some lively debates on various subjects, however, nothing lasts forever and so I think it’s time to wind the thing up…”

Needless to say there are still challenges facing Abingdon. But the forum showed that many people cared passionately for the town from various political, and non-political persuasions.

There’s no chaos Here

Newspapers had headlines about snow chaos elsewhere in the country.
Snow
Here in Abingdon there was some light fresh snow. This picture of East St Helen Street early yesterday morning shows what snow there was. Most of it has gone again now.
Snow
The early morning traffic from South Abingdon is there whether there is snow or not.

Back to normal traffic patterns after the fair

Suprisingly, being so near, we hear very little noise from the fair. We heard far more when we lived on Tithe Farm – which is some distance away.
Traffic BACK
During the days of the fair, West St Helen Street becomes an oasis of calm – with no through traffic.  But this morning, with the fair cleared, it was back to normal traffic patterns.

(Heyfordian have taken over running the Abingdon Town bus service from Whites Coaches and their orange and white coach is a frequent sight.)

New Bus Shelter on Marcham Road

A new bus shelter has been put in along Marcham Road. It is a good advertising space .

One side features Cornbury Festival.

The other side has a a poster featuring Abingdon Blinds.

This is a joint cycle and footway but it does get very narrow round the top corner. The kerb there is also two or three times the height of a normal kerb. The task was made more difficult because a nearby tree has a preservation order.
