The blooms that have been planted, cared for, and watered by the Abingdon-on-Thames Town Council outdoor staff have made a fine display this summer.

The newest feature in 2015 are the hanging baskets and raised bed at Roysse’s Court.

Edible Abingdon

Behind the kiosk of the open air swimming pool there is a small area of edible plants.

It is amazing to see how many different edible plants the Abingdon Carbon Cutters have managed to grow in such a small area. Lettuces are in season, and you can pick your own.

The wild flower meadow nearby is also blooming.

That is another project of Abingdon Carbon Cutters – with their “local response to climate change.”
Abingdon Town Council does us proud with flowers
Spike sent some pictures of the floral displays in Abingdon this summer.

He says “The Town Council has been receiving lots of bad press recently but you have to agree they have done Abingdon proud with the array of flowers displayed all around the town.”
National Sweet Pea Festival comes to Abingdon

The National Sweet Pea Society held their National Show at Millets Farm, Abingdon, last weekend. The sweet pea was introduced to the UK thanks to a Sicilian monk, Franciscus Cupani, who studied the flora of his Island, and sent seeds to this and other countries. The rest is history and “A Sweet Pea Journey through Time.”

The show was located in the large marquee near the play area and farm animals.

There were many sweet peas to admire – both for their paper-like blooms, and their delicate fragrance.
