Former Primary School teacher and Abingdon Mayor Pat Hobby has a road name on The Kingsgate Estate.

The new Aldi store is progressing well but does look like a long line of grey when viewed from the Wootton Road.

Beyond the Aldi Store and new Kingsgate Estate the cycle / pedestrian way ends. No thought seems to have gone into improving this crossing – so close to the new developments. Cycles must join the road and pedestrians cross the road at a place (near Mallams) where a young man was killed, by a speeding driver, not so long ago.

The re-channeled brook is dried up and stagnant there has been so little rain.

The developments will help pay for a full A34 junction at Lodge Hill. The last update I heard was that the full plans could be published in September.

In Botley, another place where houses are close to the A34, there is a 50 mph.

Work began in May, converting Old Abbey House into a 27-bedroom hotel after the VWHDC gave planning permission and listed building consent.

Contractors are tiling the roof

and improving utility services.

Work should be completed by Summer 2023.

The building became Grade II listed in October 2021 to help protect features such as stain-glass windows and fireplaces.

Only Aldi contractors are allowed on site, but by the end of the year, Aldi shoppers will buy fruit, nuts, chocolates, milk, wine, and bread at Aldi prices. Tesco and Sainsbury have an Aldi price match on a range of products, which is a good advert for their rival supermarket.

The framework of the new Aldi store has been erected in the field once known as the Circus Field – so named because it was previously a circus and funfair venue.

The Aldi framework was erected as quickly as a big circus top. But will not be coming down. Aldi has stolen the show and there will be no more circuses or funfairs. They killed them off by going straight for the juggler, and I don’t think we can claim for funfair dismissal. So, there is no point in going there anymore as a trapese artist. They would just let you go. However, in the cheese department, you might get some stilton.
