North Abingdon Developments

Former Primary School teacher and Abingdon Mayor Pat Hobby has a road name on The Kingsgate Estate.

The new Aldi store is progressing well but does look like a long line of grey when viewed from the Wootton Road.

Beyond the Aldi Store and new Kingsgate Estate the cycle / pedestrian way ends. No thought seems to have gone into improving this crossing – so close to the new developments. Cycles must join the road and pedestrians cross the road at a place (near Mallams) where a young man was killed, by a speeding driver, not so long ago.

Also see if you can spot the bus stop.

Here is new BUS STOP near the Abbey Fields Estate for comparison.

New turf and shrubs are being planted.at the the new Abbey Fields Estate. Sprinklers are used.

The re-channeled brook is dried up and stagnant there has been so little rain.

The developments will help pay for a full A34 junction at Lodge Hill. The last update I heard was that the full plans could be published in September.

In Botley, another place where houses are close to the A34, there is a 50 mph.

As existing patients we were alerted this week that The Abingdon Surgery is temporarily closing to new patient registrations, for at least 3 months. What is the current situation on providing new GP options for all the new residents?

I live on Long Furlong estate, we got a note through the door about two weeks ago from Long Furlong Residents Association saying there will be no new GP surgery built on the new estate, and existing surgeries will be asked to increase their capacities.

Don’t the developers have to contribute to the infrastructure (schools, roads, cycle paths, doctors, dentists) before they run off with they pocket bulging with money? Probably not!

Yes, the developers do pay under set formulas called S.106 and CIL (Community Infrastructure Levy). The amounts are apportioned between the County, District and Town Councils and health authorities for the provision of infrastructure and/or delivered in kind by the provision of community facilities on the developments. Parts of the money from these estates have already been committed for partial funding of things like the Lodge Hill slips and the new bus services.

Didn’t one of the developers get away with not providing some S106 something or other a few years ago, as they didn’t get planning permission for the social housing part of their commitment?

Developers can apply to have their commitments discharged after 5 years.

They can also “over egg” the values of the properties they are building as that can lower their S106 commitment, so I heard somewhere.

I guess if this were a proper and true ‘commitment’ the infrastructure would come first. As it rarely does, let’s just call it what it is…

I am pleased to see that my opinion was listened to and that solar panels are incorporated in to those new builds.

We’re saved! God bless Greta. Piece be up on her.

Do we know what buses will serve the new stops? Will they bring in a new route or divert an existing one? Will it be a town service only or an Abingdon to Oxford one?

From the end of August, the X1 (Oxford to Wantage) service will be re-routed via Dunmore Road and Wootton Road and will run every 30 minutes. The X2 and X3 will be unaffected.
There has not been an announcement yet about services along Twelve Acre Drive.
