Museums at Night – Abingdon

Thanks to Malvin for sending this report… Abingdon County Hall Museum was open from 6pm to 9pm for Museums at Night on 14th May 2016. There were lots of exhibits to look round as well as musical performances.
Museums at Night
Ben Heaney owns a very rare Fender Violin. It is a model that never went into full production, and so is more rare than a Stradivarius. He started the proceedings by actually playing it for 30 minutes.
Museums at Night
The Oxford Horn Quartet followed his performance in the Gallery.
Museums at Night
First performer on the roof terrace was Sarah Fell with some folk songs.
Museums at Night
The Oxford Waits performed later as the sun began to go down.

Also performing was a young lady, who the Oxford Waits persuaded to sing a song, and then improvised alongside. Malvin said it was ‘brilliant’.

Malvin also took some video clips which I uploaded to Youtube.

End of the 2015/16 football season

End of another football season
The 2015/16 football season is nearly over. Saxton Rovers were playing in the final of the North Berks Cup at the Abingdon United ground this evening. It was a good game which Long Wittenham Athletic won. The teams were drawing 3-3 at full time but Long Wittenham got two extra ( not ‘injury’ as I first said) time goals.
End of another football season
Cllr Alice Badcock, the new Mayor, presented the loosing medals to Saxton Rovers, who normally play at Caldecott Recreation Ground – in her ward in South Abingdon.

The fortunes of Abingdon Town and Abingdon United have taken a dip in the last 5 years. Abingdon Town now play in the North Berks league alongside Saxton Rovers. Abingdon United have finished in the relegation positions of the Hellenic Premier League this season.

On The Market Place this morning

After the 5k Parkrun, three runners still had the energy to help a stranded car. They ran the car up Bridge Street and into the carpark behind Bury Street, and were cheered by the other runners that congregate outside Java&co.
Market Place
The scouts were on the Market Place with a large stall selling books and jumble, a tombola, and cakes.

There was also a large Christian Aid stall with even more books, another tombola, plants and cakes.

Cllr Alice Badcock, the new Mayor, and her father, Cllr Mike Badcock, were selling tickets for Music in the Park – which is on 4th June.

Big Hole in High Street

Bus stops on the High Street in Abingdon have been closed for the last week because of work opposite.

Anybody wanting to catch a bus from Abingdon to Oxford will need to go instead to Stratton Way.
