Bus stops on the High Street in Abingdon have been closed for the last week because of work opposite.
Anybody wanting to catch a bus from Abingdon to Oxford will need to go instead to Stratton Way.
Thames Water are improving our sewer system, and have opened up a very big hole. They expect work to finish on 20-05-2016,
So the hole in the ground has moved from Stert Street to the High Street – I suppose that’s some sort of progress 😉
…The Veil and OCC need *somewhere* to pour the money…
They might get a bit of a surprise if they dig a hole like that further down the street where the Lion pub used to be as from memory there’s a large cellar that pushes out under the street linked to an even larger one which was I assume from the Lion Hotel or earlier.
There I was, a-diggin’ this ‘ole
‘Ole in the ground, so big and sort o’ round it was
And there was I, diggin’ it deep
It was flat at the bottom and the sides were steep
When along comes this bloke in a bowler
Which he lifted and scratched his ‘ead
Woooh, he looked down the ‘ole
Poor demented soul and he said
“Do you mind if I make a suggestion?
Don’t dig there, dig it elsewhere
Your digging it round and it ought to be square
The shape of it’s wrong, it’s much too long
And you can’t put hole where a hole don’t belong”…
Ted Dicks / Myles Rudge, as performed by Bernard Cribbins in 1962
The hole is a reminder why vehicles should not be parked on pavements in the Town.
