It was early closing at 6pm at Tesco on Easter Monday. Anybody going back by bike or foot had to think twice before going along by the River Ock.

The River Ock had burst its banks and so the Marcham Road was the only route.

Beyond the Drayton Road the River Ock was running fast. It was within its banks, and so there does not look like any danger to properties.

One sporting event has been cancelled. The Head of the River rowing event, planned for Sunday, 8th April, has been cancelled with great regret. The River Thames usually reaches a high water mark 2 or 3 days after the River Ock, and even if the River were row-able by next Sunday the fields would be too wet to take cars with trailers.

One Colour Theme Day

The first of the month is Theme Day for City Daily Photo bloggers. This is when somebody sets an assignment for the others. April 1st is One Colour. Having forgotten to go out specifically with this theme in mind I looked back at the pictures from last month and chose one of water cascading from the River Thames over the weir into Swift Ditch. It has a little brown but hardly any colour really. This is also not the 1st April any more, and Abingdon is a town and not a City. Nevertheless this is my entry. Follow this link to see more one colour photos taken by other CDP bloggers. Well done to them … http://cdpbthemeday.blogspot.com.au/
Our Bunnies are on an Easter Break

A notice has appeared next to the rabbits at Pets at Home in Abingdon.
It reads ‘Owning rabbits can be very rewarding and enjoyable. It’s also a long term commitment that you need to make sure you’re ready for’
‘We pride ourselves on putting pets before profit, so we’ve made the decision not to sell or adopt rabbits over the Easter weekend (30 March – 2 April). You can still buy a gift card, which can be used any time after Easter.’
Happy Easter!
Regal Abingdon! Here We Go Again

30 years ago, in 1988, The Regal in Abingdon was indulging in the ‘Walt Disney at Easter‘ tradition with Bambi. Next up was Robocop, a film that, according to the Herald, had ‘all the latest Science-Fiction film gadgetry and enough violent action to justify the suggestion it be re-named Rambocop‘.

In 2018, after a successful run at the Unicorn Theatre, The Regal in Evesham has made an offer to Abingdon-on-Thames Town Council to take over the Abbey Hall (the new part of the Guildhall) and show films there. This offer will be recommended for acceptance by the full town council which meets on 25th April, and then comes some work to prepare the building for re-opening.
Ian Wiper of the Regal Cinema stated: “We are delighted with this recommendation and look forward to working with the Town Council. If all goes as expected, we hope to launch in the summer of 2018 with Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. I would like to thank everyone who has visited us so far, our staff at the Unicorn and for the support that we have received from people in the town.”
This will allow the building to be used during the development of a scheme, by local councils, to turn the Guildhall into a Community Hub.
