Oxford Vapours used to run a successful business on Stert Street selling vapes. A flood shut their old premises.
They will be returning to Abingdon in Bury Street with premises that will not flood.
The other new business opening is Gents Cut on Bath Street- a traditional barber.
Abingdon Music Centre was established over 45 years ago to give the people of Abingdon opportunities to make music, from the very young to the very old. They run many groups, and yesterday at Thomas Reade School, the different groups performed for each other.
In this picture, the singing for pleasure group sang some old favourites and two catchy songs written by a local composer for The Queen’s Jubilee: ‘Celebration’ and ‘What would you do if the Queen came to tea?’
The plot to plate community event will involve music and dance as well as classes, talks and tastings focused on vegetable growing, cooking and eating. The event will be in the Abbey Buildings and gardens on Saturday the 9th of July. The event is a collaboration between the Abbey Buildings, One Planet Abingdon, Abingdon Carbon Cutters and Abingdon Events Partnership. Raised vegetable beds were introduced this year by the Abingdon Carbon Cutters in their Abbey Gardens plot. Their green-fingered experts are leading by example.
Mr Hemmings Traditional Abingdon Morris Dancers hosted the Day of Dance in Abingdon Town Centre today. Performing with them were several groups:
* Tæppa’s Tump, a Ladies North West Morris side, from the Maidenhead area
* Mason’s Apron Morris from Long Hanborough
* Bampton Morris Dancers.
* Summertown Morris.
* Ashnah Tribal Dance from the exotic part of Abingdon
Dancing started at 11:00 at the Broad Face pub and then moved to the market square and the Punch Bowl. It was planned to finish at the Brewery Tap pub at around 3:15.
