this weekend the island opened up for the first time with a cafe, bar, and grill. The covers were useful as there was a light rain when I got there.

The Loose Cannon Beer twitter feed said as much last week … “Just had a very exciting meeting with new landlord of The Nags Head on Abingdon Bridge. You will soon be able to drink Bridge on the Bridge!”

From Drag Racing to Dragon Boat Racing in 8 days

Bath Street was closed to traffic today as teams of cross dressed persons competed in the first ever Abingdon Drag Racing competition. They had 5 hours to visit 17 pubs and answer a lot of quiz questions. The winners with the most points won a trophy, and it was all done to raise funds for Mind and the Stroke Association.

A stage had been made from scaffold poles in the Poundland delivery area – and groups – some very good – were performing during the day, and evening, outside the Black Swan.

Next weekend, on Sunday from 10:30, sees the postponed Dragon Boat Racing.

and other forms of home produce, arts and crafts.

Mr Michael Matthews, the Chairman of the Society was pleased with the turnout. They had leafleted nearby houses and many people coming through the door were not members and soon could be.

The Society have been using the Northcourt Centre for the last eight years, and was originally founded in 1885.

Thanks to Hester for spotting this one in the Public Notices section of yesterday’s Abingdon herald. A company from near Bristol are looking to get planning permission for 170 dwellings off the Drayton Road near Virginia Way in South Abingdon. More detail of the exact location will be given at the public exhibition. If anyone knows more please leave a comment.
