If you didn’t see it on BBC2 this evening then you can catch it on iPlayer at James Mays Man Lab Series 3 Episode_3/
Thanks to Councillor Iain Littlejohn who wrote a letter describing the plight of the people at the back of the Market Place who rarely get buns, James May came to Abingdon and introduced some technology and planning into throwing buns
during the Diamond Jubilee bun throwing last year.
It was great fun to watch the programme. Thanks for the mention a few days ago. Great to see the crowds turning up in the pouring rain. We have moved from Abingdon but still enjoy your blog
Doh! or should that be Dough??. The bun references a bit too much I think ;-).
I watched the programme last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a light-hearted and humorous view of the ceremony. It took me right back to the real exhilaration and excitement of that day last year. Well done James May and team.
Perhaps now more people will seek out and visit this lovely little town.
Really enjoyable light -hearted programme item. A whole lot more people now know about this interesting attractive riverside town with its unique bun tradition!
BBC Two : Tuesday 16 April : 19:00 : The Hairy Bikers will help throw a crayfish party on the banks of the Thames (at Abingdon Lock) with Crayfish Bob doing the cooking
That was a fun programme, but did anyone else notice that the adults seemed to be collecting buns and leaving out the children who couldn’t reach so high? A little boy was given a bun, but I don’t know about his sister. It would be good if those who manage to catch a lot of buns would look around and make sure the children get their fair share.
Took some photos of may when he came to Abingdon. Hanging outside Throwing buns having a coffee and a Fag. He looked a bit fed up.
