An oak tree was planted in Albert Park in commemoration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. Felicity Dick, the Deputy Lord Lieutenant for Oxfordshire, planted the tree.
The spade used was loaned by Abingdon School and is the same spade used by Mrs Thatcher and The Princess Royal and others.
Albert Park is owned by the Christ’s Hospital of Abingdon, the charity founded in 1553. The current Master of Christ’s Hospital, Lt Col Andrew Douglass, said a few words to honour the occasion.

Whoops – slight error in first paragraph which inadvertently promotes Felicity who I don’t think is Prince Albert’s great great granddaughter
It should say Prince Albert looks down from his plinth on the tree that commemorates his g g granddaughter (queen Elizabeth), as it is planted by Felicity.
My mistake I think, so apologies to Felicity and Her Majesty for any confusion.
sorry. Got the wrong end of the stick. Have simplified now.
Barones Thatcher, if you please
Baroness* rather
Mrs Thatcher when she planted it?
I believe she used it twice but to be honest I don’t know if she was Baroness or plain old Mrs at the time 🙂
