It’s just a shame that the standard of finish is SO bad. Perhaps they still have snagging to do but it smacks of a too speedy job.

WOW! It looks great doesn’t it?

It’s nice to see the shop fronts clearly from wherever you stand and the roofline looks much more in keeping with the view from the top of the museum than the old flat one did.

Everything is looking better, little by little.

I was told yesterday by another shop owner abuilder said that this will not be finished by christmas . The paving will be finished but that is it this will mean customers will do christmas shopping in Didcot and Oxford etc as traders we are relying on christmas sales as the last few months have been the worst on record all i can say it support your independent town shops they need you .

As I understand it there are no shops wanting to go in anyway. Sorry to be negative but Abingdon really has to do something to promote and improve itself, including sorting out the traffic.

@Kelly i thought there was talk of big name brand stores opening the town needs them desperatley . I was told phase two in Didcot is getting a Debenhams we need stores similar or Abingdon is finished

I don’t think the frosts have done any favours to the finish.

See they are putting the outer brick skins on at the back, loads of insulation as well, between the layers…..

Not bad. Considering they’ve taken away the canopies/sheltering, it would be nice to see the traditional individual canvas canopies that shop-keepers used pull out 🙂

Looks good, but the two buildings on the corner of the square need sorting out. I note they are trying to match some windows, but the brick building on the left looks like it needs rendering and painting a sympathetic colour. I like the idea of old school canvas canopies and this is the sort of approach the town needs to distinguish itself from local competition.

I agree with The Oxonian. It needs something at ‘shop window level’ to make it look more traditional. To me it still looks like a ‘clone toen’ shopping precinct.
