    So farewell Strattons
    We knew you well

    Your floors were caked
In the spillt drinks of the ages

That is why everyone called you stickies

Which could have been much worse
if your nickname was from the pavement pizzas served at throwing out time…

    ….with apologies to EJ.Thribb (44 3/4)

Looking forward to it, the area is to be gutted, and a new gym will be built,

Plenty of room for new equipment/Treatment Rooms/and offer more ‘activities’ such as Zumba ‘Boxersize’ and such.

Larger Free weight area and kettlebells.. (I won’t have to carry my own around then ;-).

i’m so old I remember when it was a furniture shop. I bet the people who live nearby won’t be sorry to see it go.

I have many a fond memory of that place over the years. Seeing people being thrown down the stairs by the door staff and on one occasion seeing some one thrown down the drop of the stairs!!
Snake bite and black being £1 on a Thursday night, blimey its all flooding back!!
Everyone slags the place off but for late night revellers where else it there to go. In some ways I hope they find a new venue, with a clean carpet!!

Don’t they have late night dancing at the cricket club – cant remember the name but sure I’ve seen signs as I’ve driven past?

I think it’s a bit of a shame and I know when my son and daughter went out at night I was much happier knowing they were close to home rather than having to go to Oxford with the dangers of the taxi or bus (or goodness knows what else) playing on your mind until they got home.

Something similar but on the outskirts of town would be a good idea.

If anybody does visit Stickies now, its not changed much over the years. Plastic is used instead of glass, but the decor is unchanged….

Rather confusing article in Oxford Mail, People of Abingdon complaining it is closing..and a change of name??. There is a confusing sign above the doors which advertise an after school activity club, (apparently Mobile in Abingdon). So some people think the club is called Funky Monkeys……

But the blacked out windows in big letters Strattons……

I spent some time looking at the sign and reading the details before going to the gym myself…

    Confused Col.

  9. rumour??

Rumours are the owners are interested in the Nags Head??.

(I think I recall a distant memory the only reason owners went into the Nightclub business was the licence to sell alcohol during opening hours 22:00 to 03:00am.!!
    previously Pub owners)

(Don’t quote me on that tho, my memory not what it used to be) 😉

Anyone remember what this nightclub was called back in 88-89? – I worked there for six months and can confirm that all the above was true back then. I’ve been racking my brains …
