Full Moon and Culvert Repairs

Full moon
Full moon tonight and a clear sky.
Full moon
Mars was visible just above the moon to the left.
Full moon
By moonlight, I see that there is a works depot by the Broad Face. Repairs to the River Stert culvert began on Monday and will take 2 weeks. As reported some weeks ago Stert Street had been partially closed to stop it collapsing.

There is a very good picture of the open River Stert under Stert Street in the 1960s. It is the fourth picture down of Martin’s excellent series of pictures taken by his dad … Destruction of Abingdon 1960s.

Lovely picutres of 1960’s Abingdon, thank you for posting the link. What a shame that so many beautiful buildings were demolished!

Much as I hate the Abingdon shopping centre, I hope someone gets photos like these when it is being modified this year.
Always nice to have something to look back on and all that….

.just confirms my memory of the destruction and vandalism of 1965-6 which was happening when we first came here; all done I believe by Lord Esher’s outfit – he had just produced a book about how Oxfordshire had been ruined by cheap development!!

By the way for planets look West to see Venus and Jupiter and maybe Mercury; the internet says this is one of the most spectacular monthsfor planets ever!

Its amazing just how awful the precinct buildings looked even brand new. Poorly designed and obviously very cheaply built. What were they going for…. the East German cold war look ?
