Rumour has it that Oxford wood recycling in Abingdon would like to help with restoration or even produce a better monk.

Happy to see our abbot is no longer doing a p*** artist impression and is back on his feet for 2023, though that’s quite a split in the wood! That would be great if Oxford Wood Recycling do want to help, restoring or making a better sculpture that can manage in the weather – maybe there can even be a fundraiser so people can chip in. It would be good to have some nice art in the industrial part of Abingdon.

Agree it would be nice to have a monk who actually looked like a Benedictine, rather than a rogue Franciscan. But glad he’s standing again – perhaps the guerilla crochet squad could re-start the tradition of dressing him in different outfits.

Yes that’s 100% what Abingdon needs at it’s entrance that welcomes the world to the best town in the UK, if not the world. A monk made from rotten wood and dressed in knitted or crocheted clothing. Maybe get sponsored by Masons? Actually let’s do this properly…. reach out to ever now owns Pavalova Leather and ask for a leather cloak.

Pavlova hasn’t existed in Abingdon since 1993. Strong and Fisher (who I assume own the name Pavlova) a Northampton based leather-goods manufacturer took ownership after a takeover from owners at that time Pittard Garner.

And it would appear Strong and Fisher ceased trading in 1994 so quite who owns the Pavlova brand name now is anyones guess.
