Bank Holiday weekend

The Post Box Topper on Abingdon Market Place has a nautical look. Secret Crocheters Post Box-Toppers have raised £1,279 for charities before this one. Donations for this topper will go to the Great Ormond Street Hospital via https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/secret-crocheter4.

Under Abingdon Bridge, a Salters Steamer called ‘Goring’ steamed away to Oxford this Bank Holiday morning.

In Abingdon this afternoon, the Abingdon Traditional Morris Dancers were dancing outside the Punchbowl.

On Saturday, there was a Balloon and Fireworks Festival at Abingdon Airfield.

On Sunday, there was J-Fest 22 (the music festival accessible to all – not far from Abingdon).

These post box toppers are brilliant and I’m really pleased that the Secret Chrocheters haven’t found anything better to do with their lives … (applause here)

A mate tells me that Salter’s cruisers now only sail for group bookings and are are no longer available on a ‘think I’ll go for a jaunt along the river’ on a casual basis. Shame, really, I saw ‘Goring’ go through the lock and it’s a nice boat.

The Morris … I remember some of these guys from when I moved to Abingdon and their faces were a stranger to to a razor. Perhaps I should change my ‘handle’.

Moving here … that would be 2006 and I used the then-new Blog as a research tool when making my mind up as to whether, or not to move here and some things don’t change. Alastair is still ‘doing the biz’ by producing this fantastic asset for the town. Odd, really, but I met Harry, before I met the human he’d chosen to feed him

This is a good place to live.

Salters Steamers wrecked our trip to Sandford Lock and back with many elderly and partially sighted people, lunch having been arranged at the King’s Arms. Don’t trust Salters! Having phoned well ahead to check we could do this, once we got on the boat we were told the boat was not coming back to Abingdon and was one way only! We had to get taxis back to Abingdon.
