Refill your reusable

Abingdon-on-Thames Town Council have provided a drinking fountain for the public in front of the Guildhall.
one less plastic bottle is used
It has been inset into the external stairway to the Council Chamber, and is part of the recent refurbishment of the Guildhall. The fountain has been delayed because of the need to get planning permission and the right stones to fit the stairway.

I tried drinking directly under the tap and found the water jet quite strong, and probably better suited to filling up water bottles.

It will be added to the refill app (on mobile phones) ‘Find water on the go’.

‘Have you #GotTheBottle?’

‘Every time you refill your reusable, one less plastic bottle is used.’

It looks much better appointed than the ladies toilet in the Multi Story. This is disgusting. The last time I went there was no toilet seat, the walls were crumbling. It looks like a toilet in a 3rd world country. Even some of the toilets in India were better than the multi story toilet.

Shame they can’t provide decent public toilets. Abingdon is a disgrace when it comes to the toilets. They need to go and look at Didcot who know how to do things properly.

Thanks to Abingdon Town Council – a water refill tap is really useful and prevents wasteful plastic bottles. It also looks good, so a pleased customer here.

I think it’s a nice idea but I think drunks leaving the pubs will relieve themselves on it. That area is quite dark at night. Oh and to the person who mentioned brexit the toilets have been like it for 10+ years. I wish Abingdon council would purchase the shops off the London company then the council could set the rates and get a range of shops to attract customers one might even be able to manage toilets. Might have been easier to do before the face lift of the shop fronts but with a range of shops as Didcot has proved you can really get the appeal back to the town. Right now we are the old Didcot.

Lots of comments on here about the state of the multi-storey car park toilets. If they are in such a state, it truly is shameful that a town like Abingdon can’t even offer decent toilet facilities. Are there any councillors on this blog who can explain why they are such a mess? Getting a bit tired of our beautiful town not getting even the basics right.

Not been into the toilets in Abingdon for a long while but last time I did there were two guys injecting themselves. I say close them for good and the local authority make an arrangement with certain shops that can offer this facility in return for a reduction in rental fees. Kill two birds and all that!

Just to clarify, the Charter toilets are the responsibility of the Vale of White Horse District Council. There was a lot of money in their budget a couple of years ago for refurbishing the whole of the car park (after the collapse of the idea to demolish it and build a supermarket and new car park there) but that never happened. There will no doubt be lots of District Councillors out on the streets in the next couple of weeks so why not ask any who knock on your door? Otherwise check on the Vale website to see who your councillor is and contact them.
