Craft Fair + Recycling

They were joined by the district council’s recycling team, giving out advice on what could be recycled. I also got a replacement food bin as ours went missing. It was easy to recognise as it has a stripe of pale green paint, and a hole made by sharp little teeth – a rat once escaped after getting locked in.

The Carbon Cutters were encouraging people to cut down on plastics, and had a fact sheet about gardening without plastics.

Added Ingredients were demonstrating their refill technology, which allows detergent, conditioner, and washing liquid to be refilled into empty bottles, cutting down on plastic waste.

Good to see the market place in use…

Does anyone know; does the council put out to tender the recycling collection and disposal?

I mean…do they pay us to take it, or do we pay them?

When I was in Abingdon recently the place looked disgusting, overflowing bins filthy pavements does it ever get cleaned ?.Perhaps they could borrow the machines that Witney uses to enhance the place.

The Craft Market was great, some interesting new stalls there selling very tempting stuff! For those who like such things, plans are now well advanced for this year’s Abingdon Traditional Craft Fair, 2-4 November in the Abbey Buildings. Like last year it will focus on good quality “real” craft, not mass-produced stuff; there will be more stalls and – by popular demand – a cafe.

And hopefully no entrance fee to pay for seeing what’s on offer in the Abbey Buildings Craft Fair this year? That stopped us and a few others I saw on the day from going in, potentially buying something nice, especially as Christmas was getting close.

Sorry folks – unlike a one-day open-air event there are substantial costs involved in staging it – publicity, security, heating, marquee hire etc – not to mention that the event is supposed to raise funds for the Abbey Buildings! If we passed all those costs on to the stallholders none of them would come, so we wouldn’t have an event. As it is, they contribute part of the costs and the visitors contribute the rest. Those of you who go to other quality craft fairs will know that that is the usual model.
